The answers to several important questions will help you know how to get started as a real estate investor. Successful real estate investing will always be the result of careful planning and analysis. It’s important to realize that there is no perfect time to get started. Successful real estate investing can occur in good times or bad, in times of inflation or recession. It all depends on your dedication and effort to get started.
1. Time — Do I want to be a full-time or a part-time investor? How much time do I have to invest in managing my income-producing properties?
2. Money – How much cash do I have to invest in my venture? If there isn’t enough cash, what other resources do I have? What else am I willing to do to acquire the cash I need?
3. Support – Is my spouse or other partner supportive? Are they willing to contribute anything toward getting started as a real estate investor? How about parents or friends or even a real estate investment club member?
4. Sweat equity – Am I handy with tools? What other skills do I have that will be required to successfully begin my real estate investment career? Will I need to hire most services done, and if so, how does that impact my profit margin?
5. Expectations – Are my expectations of future income realistic, based on my present knowledge and experience?
6. Incentive — If I really want to get started as a real estate investor, what’s preventing me from accomplishing my goal?
You will make mistakes, you will probably lose money, you will wish you had made different decisions along the way. You will spend long hours to acquire the information and expertise you require to be successful. But, you can be successful in your goal of becoming a successful real estate investor.
All it really takes to get started is a strong, unflinching desire to work for yourself, a determination to take action to reach your goal, and persistence to keep moving toward that goal, no matter what.
